Can I take ibuprofen while I'm breastfeeding?

Yes, you can take ibuprofen, as long as you don't have a stomach ulcer or asthma that gets worse if you take ibuprofen.

Yes, you can take ibuprofen, as long as you don't have a stomach ulcer or asthma that gets worse if you take ibuprofen.

Only a small amount gets into your breastmilk and it's unlikely to harm your baby.

Take ibuprofen for the shortest time possible and stick to the recommended dose. You'll find this on the outside of the packet or in the leaflet inside.

When you buy ibuprofen, the leaflet that comes with some brands may advise you to avoid using it while you're breastfeeding. Check with your pharmacist or GP if you're concerned.

If you need more advice:

  • talk to your midwife, health visitor, GP or pharmacist
